On the cover

The cover is a detail from a 2022 painting, . . . for the good of mankind, by Marshallese artist Marino Morris. It depicts a nuclear detonation above Bikini Atoll as Marshall Islanders look on, cradled in what Morris describes as “God’s hands.” The painting’s title references the phrase used by US Commodore Ben Wyatt when he announced to the atoll inhabitants in February 1946 that they had to leave because of the impending explosion.
