Positron emission tomography (PET) scans of a patient with lymphoma reveal the extent of the disease. PET imaging with radioactively labeled tracer molecules is able to map features of the body’s biochemistry—here, the rate of glucose metabolism, which is elevated in cancer cells—with high sensitivity.
