UK study finds fracking poses little risk to public health

NOV 01, 2013

BBC :The US has been using hydraulic fracturing , or fracking, for decades to access valuable shale gas reserves, and the process has raised several public health and environmental concerns. Because the UK would also like to tap into its shale gas resources, Public Health England recently launched a study reviewing the latest research in the field. It found that although some instances of air and groundwater pollution have been associated with the process, such problems could be avoided through strong government regulation and good onsite management. “The potential risks to public health in the vicinity of shale gas extraction sites are low if shale gas extraction is properly run and regulated,” according to the report.
