Synakowski named new head of U.S. fusion energy effort

Ed Synakowski,Fusion Energy Program Leader at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and a current member of Fusion Power Associates Board of Directors, has been named to head the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fusion Energy Sciences (OFES) effective June 7. He succeeds Ray Fonck (University of Wisconsin), who resigned the post in August 2008.After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Texas in 1988, Ed joined the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), where he worked on the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) and later the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) until joining LLNL in January 2006.
