BBC: Just days after the 53rd anniversary of the 4 October 1957 launch of Sputnik, the world’s first human-made satellite, three men—one American and two Russians—took off yesterday on a new model of the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, the TMA-01M. NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and cosmonauts Alexander Kaleri and Oleg Skripochka will complete a five-month tour on board the International Space Station. While on the station, the crew will oversee at least two shuttle visits and two unmanned cargo ship visits and will perform research in various areas, including fundamental physics, biometric experiments and investigations of crystal growth in space, and education outreach.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
