The Daily Telegraph: The Sun follows an 11-year cycle in which its radiation output and sunspot activity waxes and wanes. Currently the Sun is at its minimum radiation output.A new report in the UK suggests that as the Sun’s output rises to a new maximum, satellite navigation devices will be susceptible from the expected increase in solar flares.The bursts of radiation caused by the flares interfere with signals from satellites orbiting Earth, causing receivers to fail and lose track of their position.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
