SPACE.com: On Sunday, thousands gathered on Easter Island to view the total solar eclipseâmdash;when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, blocking Earth’s view of the Sun. This solar eclipse was one of the most remote ever, visible along a thousand-mile track in the southern Pacific Ocean, starting about 2:00pm ET in northern New Zealand and ending about 5:00pm ET at the southern tip of South America. It is the first total eclipse to hit the island in 1400 years.
