SPACE.com: On Sunday, thousands gathered on Easter Island to view the total solar eclipseâmdash;when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, blocking Earth’s view of the Sun. This solar eclipse was one of the most remote ever, visible along a thousand-mile track in the southern Pacific Ocean, starting about 2:00pm ET in northern New Zealand and ending about 5:00pm ET at the southern tip of South America. It is the first total eclipse to hit the island in 1400 years.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
Modeling the shapes of tree branches, neurons, and blood vessels is a thorny problem, but researchers have just discovered that much of the math has already been done.
