“Smoothie” could revolutionize graphene applications

New Scientist : To find a way to mass-produce graphene—the ultrastrong, ultrathin wonder material with unusual electrical and thermal properties—researchers led by Jonathan Coleman of Trinity College Dublin experimented with various solvent fluids and mixers. They found that combining graphite powder and ordinary Fairy liquid dishwashing soap in a kitchen blender created a black liquid full of graphene. The next step is to scale up the production to industrial levels. Once a way is found to manufacture graphene in large quantities, it could revolutionize a number of technologies, including those used in electronics, biological engineering, and photovoltaic-energy storage.
