New evidence may change timeline of early universe

Los Angeles Times : The epoch of reionization is the period during which objects formed that were energetic enough to ionize the free hydrogen atoms that are distributed throughout the universe, thereby making the universe transparent at visible wavelengths. The exact timing of this period is hard to measure but is generally considered to have begun at least 150 million years after the Big Bang and lasted until the universe was 1 billion years old. A new paper by Anastasia Fialkov of Tel Aviv University and her colleagues argues that the reionization occurred more slowly and more evenly than previously believed. Their conclusion was based on observations of x-ray emissions from binary star systems and combined with new models for the arrangement of the early universe.
