The National Accelerator Laboratory was officially dedicated and named the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory on 11 May. The lab regularly produces 300‐GeV protons and has occasionally run at 400 GeV. It has achieved a beam intensity of protons per pulse (ppp) and is working toward its design intensity of PPP. Yet, even as the Fermi Lab has nearly achieved its original goals, planners there are contemplating future goals. In a talk at the April meeting of the APS in Washington, D.C., Don Edwards of the Fermi Lab described two new possibilities—an energy doubler and storage rings.
