Fred Thompson on science investment

Fred 08 : A Thompson administration would encourage students and teachers to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math-fields that are crucial to our security, competitiveness, and prosperity.

It would Limit non-defense federal spending to inflation and institute a one year freeze on the hiring of all non-essential civilian workers and contractors. This will give a new Administration time to assess its personnel requirements in order to “right size” the federal workforce, commensurate with national priorities, to match staffing and contracting needs to agency responsibilities across the executive branch. As part of that program a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis will be carried across all federal programs to eliminate ineffective or moderately effective programs.
