Washington Post: As part of an investigation by the US Congress into a controversial clean-energy loan program under the Obama administration, 10 Department of Energy workers had their private emails subpoenaed late last week. The main company being investigated, Solyndra, received a loan guarantee of $535 million in 2009 but declared bankruptcy in 2011. The ensuing investigation has sought to determine whether the company misrepresented its finances in order to get the loan. Democrats claim that the subpoenas are a Republican attempt to intimidate federal workers. Republicans counter that key information, including discussions of companies that might be funded and the political implications, was conveyed using private email accounts and that the subpoenas were necessary to gain access to that information.
