Congress moves toward protecting Earth against asteroid attacks

SPACE.com : Last month, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (RâCA) introduced a bill, HR 5587 , “to establish a United States Commission on Planetary Defense and for other purposes.” The bill springs from the concern of Rohrabacher and others that a so-called near-Earth object could strike Earth with catastrophic results. The bill, which has bipartisan support, is currently being considered by the House Committee on Science and Technology.
