The future of unified gauge theories

Having unified the weak and electromagnetic and perhaps the strong interactions, gauge theories now point towards key roles for Higgs bosons, and possible particles with masses as high as 1017GeV.

Unified gauge theories of elementary-particle interactions have had an exciting start. In this article, I want to try to look a little way into their future.
