Radio astronomy

The following account of the Symposium on Radio Astronomy at Colgate University, organized last April by the New York State Section of the American Physical Society, serves as an introduction to the succeeding four articles (beginning on page 26 of this issue, and continuing through page 46), all of which are based on papers presented during that meeting.

The 1960 spring meeting of the New York State Section of the American Physical Society was the second to be held under a revised system. Once again, a central theme was chosen, and some 170 members and guests were treated to a spirited and excellent survey of modern radio astronomy presented by several of the outstanding and active radio astronomers of the nation.
