Independent: Scientists are forecasting that emissions of manmade carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will reach their highest level in history this year. Although global CO 2 emissions tend to fall during a recession, last year’s recession resulted in only a 1.3% decrease—less than half of what was expected. To avoid a potentially dangerous climate change later this century, scientists warn that governments need to begin curbing emissions drastically. At the United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held 29 November through 10 December in Cancun, Mexico, member countries will attempt to hammer out a more strenuous agreement to address global warming.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
