Economist: : Despite strong opposition, research into geoengineering is progressing quickly, and the topic even made it into the proceedings of the recent United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. Geoengineering involves trying to fix manmade climate change without attempting to decrease the greenhouse-gas emissions that caused it, such as by using plants or chemistry to suck up excess carbon dioxide. The Economist discusses several recent geoengineering proposals.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
