The Institute

AT its meeting on March 25, the Governing Board of the American Institute of Physics authorized construction later this year of a four‐story and basement addition to the Institute’s headquarters building on East 45th Street in New York City. The action was recommended by both the AIP Property Committee and the Board’s Executive Committee as being the most immediately practical step towards satisfying the Institute’s space requirements in the foreseeable future. The rapid growth of the Institute’s responsibilities in journal publication and other services to the physics community is discussed in some detail in the Annual Report for 1960 (see pp. 20–27 of this issue), and it is estimated there that the Institute will have to double its present working space during the next decade to keep pace with its expanding activities.
