Science: A panel evaluating proposed changes to biology textbooks rejected challenges from creationist groups who had asked that alternatives to evolution be included. Led by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, the panel included experts on evolution and fossils. The panel decided to include a discussion of Archaeopteryx, saying that debate over its position in the line between dinosaurs and birds did not contradict evolution, and also decided that the section on the evolution of the horse needed to be improved. The government supported the panel’s conclusion that evolution is fundamental to science education. Textbook publishers will be expected to make the changes by 2013.
