Sameera Moussa

It’s the birthday of Sameera Moussa, who was born in 1917 in Gharbia, Egypt. A talented student, Moussa enrolled at Cairo University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and went on to become the first woman to hold a teaching post there. For her PhD, also at Cairo University, she studied how various materials absorb x rays. Moussa became an active member in the international movement to harness radiation for peaceful purposes, especially in medicine. She died at the age of 35 in an automobile accident during a visit to California.
