Recent bailout could help Greek science

AUG 17, 2015
Physics Today

Nature : Things may be looking up for Greek scientists. Because of Greece’s financial problems over the past five years, researchers there have been strapped for funds. Now, however, a bailout approved on 14 August by the Greek Parliament and the European Council of Ministers will allow the release of two major subsidies from the European Union, funds that can be used for research. In addition, Greek research minister Costas Fotakis plans to create a new fund dedicated to research and innovation. The money would come from both public and private sources and would fund basic and applied research.
