For his services in the field of radiation criteria and standards, the American College of Radiology has presented its Gold Medal to Lauriston S. Taylor, special assistant to the president of the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Taylor, who recently retired from his post of associate director of the National Bureau of Standards, joined the Bureau in 1927 to organize and develop the nation’s first program for radiation standards. As head of the NBS radiation research program, he obtained basic and theoretical data on the interactions of radiation with nuclei, atoms, and molecules, developing radiation sources and standards and improving the means for detecting and measuring these radiations.
