Pope takes strong stance on climate change

JUN 18, 2015
Physics Today

BBC : In his long-awaited encyclical , Pope Francis addresses the problem of global warming, laying the blame on human consumerism and greed. The 192-page letter covers a lot of ground, including pleas to the rich to change their lifestyles and to governments to work to preserve the environment and reduce pollution. Although several key US Republicans, including presidential candidate Jeb Bush, have already voiced their disapproval, the pope’s message is receiving strong support from environmentalists, who hope it will influence diplomatic leaders from around the world before they gather for the United Nations climate conference in Paris in December.
