Physicist pleads not guilty to selling technology to China

JUN 08, 2015
Physics Today

Science : On 4 June Xiaoxing Xi, a former chair of Temple University’s physics department, pled not guilty to charges that he had attempted to obtain technology from a US company to sell to China. Xi is known for his work in thin-film semiconductors and in 2007 was elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society. The indictment alleges that Xi used his position as a referee in China’s high-tech development program to transfer the technology he obtained. The case is just one of several that the US Department of Justice has brought against Chinese researchers in both the US and China in the past several months.
