On January 1, Wallace R. Brode succeeded James G. Baker of the Harvard College Observatory as president of the Optical Society of America, heading the organization’s slate of officers for 1961. Dr. Baker, in the role of past president, will continue to serve as an officer of the Society. Dr. Brode, the new president, whose resignation as science adviser to the Secretary of State was announced last summer, has now also resigned as editor of the Journal of the Optical Society of America after having served in that position for the last eleven years. The president‐elect of the Society is David L. MacAdam, research associate in the Physics Division and head of the Image Structure Department of Eastman Kodak Company’s Research Laboratories in Rochester, N.Y., who is to become president on January 1, 1962
