Guardian: Siegfried Hecker, the man who used to run the US nuclear weapons laboratories at Los Alamos, was recently allowed to tour a North Korean uranium enrichment plant. Hecker’s report to Washington was an eye-opener on several counts: First, North Korea has been able to acquire the necessary equipment despite United Nations sanctions; second, the plant was built in less than a year—a task that normally takes several years; and third, the plant had gone undetected until North Korea decided to show it to Hecker. In short, the West’s policy of trying to cut off the North Koreans from nuclear supplies doesn’t seem to be working.
