New think tank will focus on US education policy

SEP 08, 2015
Physics Today

Science : After a year of planning, the Learning Policy Institute began operations on 3 September. Linda Darling-Hammond, a professor emeritus of education at Stanford University and longtime education reform advocate, founded the institute. Its goal, she says, is to serve as a nonpartisan and independent guide to education policy. She says that the institute will fill the gap between conducting extensive education research and promoting education policy. Other organizations like the National Academies already carry out the research, but Darling-Hammond says that summarizing and presenting it to policymakers is where they fall short. The institute has already secured $5 million per year in ongoing funding from several philanthropies.
