New electric pylon design unveiled in the UK

BBC : Many of the newly constructed renewable energy sources in the UK are located in regions far from the primary lines within the nation’s power grid. Connecting those new power plants to the grid requires a new pylon design different from the 90-year-old metal lattice structure currently in use. The first of the new T-shaped pylons has just been unveiled by the UK’s National Grid. The simpler structure not only is capable of transporting electricity at 400 kV but also reduces construction time from one week to just one day. The line of pylons under construction is intended as a training system, but the new designs are expected to be put into place for new facilities in Wales and England.
