BBC : Intel has released the full source code for its Assistive Context-Aware Toolkit (ACAT), which it originally developed for Stephen Hawking and has been used by other people with motor neurone disease. The company decided to make the software public to help researchers develop new interfaces for people with other degenerative muscle diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Besides translating inputs into text and then converting the text to speech, ACAT can also interact with a wide range of other software, including Microsoft Word and various internet browsers.
