Explanation for SpaceX Falcon 9 failure not expected to be simple

JUL 08, 2015
Physics Today

Nature : SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says that his company hopes to have an explanation later this week for the failure of its Falcon 9 rocket during a 28 June cargo mission launch to the International Space Station. He noted that, so far, none of the proposed theories match the telemetry data. Because of that, the company is also trying to determine if apparently conflicting measurements are the result of instrumentation error. The failure was the first for the Falcon 9 rocket, which has successfully completed six launches. It was also the third failed attempt in a row to get supplies to the astronauts on the space station. However, a resupply mission that was launched this past weekend on a Russian Progress spacecraft has successfully reached the station.
