The European Southern Observatory 3.6‐meter telescope obtained its first photographs of the Southern skies on 9 November. The Observatory is located in La Silla, Chile. This wide-angle view shows the prime‐focus cage; the 3.6‐meter mirror, located in the central structure, is not visible. Measurements with instruments mounted behind the main mirror at the Cassegrain focus (left) are to begin early this year, and further measurements at the Coude focus begin later this year.
