Construction to resume on Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii

JUN 22, 2015
Physics Today

Science : On 24 June, construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) on Hawaii’s Mauna Kea will resume. The project had been halted in April due to native Hawaiian protests over cultural and ecological concerns. In a statement released last week, Henry Yang, chair of the TMT International Observatory Board, said that the organization has worked closely with the state governor and with cultural organizations to ensure that environmental risks will be minimized and that cultural activities will not be interfered with during and after the telescope’s construction.
