Chinese dark-matter explorer launches successfully

DEC 17, 2015
Physics Today

Science : Today China launched its Dark Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), which is to enter into a Sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 500 km. The launch went according to plan, but it will take several days to check that all systems are up and running. DAMPE is one of five satellite missions planned by the Chinese Academy of Sciences as part of its Strategic Pioneer Research Program in Space Science. DAMPE’s mission is to measure extremely high-energy electrons and photons that result when dark-matter particles annihilate.
