Los Angeles Times: A report released Friday by the National Research Council predicts that among the US states that border the Pacific coast, California will suffer most from global warming. As Earth’s temperature increases, ocean water will expand and polar ice will melt, resulting in an overall rise in sea level. In addition, geological forces are causing parts of California’s coastline to sink. Washington and Oregon will not be as affected by rising sea levels because tectonic forces are causing their coastlines to rise instead of fall. The data from the study will be used to help local governments prepare for future coastal erosion and flooding.
