Australian scientists to go on strike

JUN 12, 2015
Physics Today

Guardian : Scientists at one of Australia’s premier agencies for scientific research—the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)—are set to go on strike next week because of disagreements over pay and working conditions. The strike was prompted by two years of budget cuts, which have affected CSIRO’s employee salaries and research projects. Joining CSIRO will be about 15 other public-sector organizations and departments, including the Australian Antarctic Division and the Department of Agriculture. Sam Popovski, secretary of the CSIRO staff association, released a statement saying the strike represents “the biggest campaign of industrial action in CSIRO’s history.”
