Auction of Einstein’s personal letters

JUN 12, 2015
Physics Today

NBC : Yesterday a collection of Albert Einstein’s personal correspondence fetched a total of $420 625 at auction. It comprised more than two dozen letters written to relatives and friends. Some are in English, some in German; some were written in longhand, others on typewriters. Topics vary from reminiscences on a toy steam engine an uncle had given him years before to discussions of his thoughts on God and religion. “These are certainly among the most important things I’ve ever handled,” said Joseph Maddalena, founder of Profiles in History, the California-based auction house where the sale took place.
