The Council of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, at the conclusion of its 18th semiannual meeting early in December, announced that Victor F. Weisskopf will succeed John B. Adams as director‐general of CERN on August 1 of this year. Dr. Adams, who is scheduled to return to England at that time as director of the United Kingdom’s Culham Laboratory for Plasma Physics Research, became CERN’s director‐general following the tragic airplane accident last April which claimed the life of his predecessor, C. J. Bakker.
