Vostok 3

On this day in 1962, the Soviet Union’s Vostok 3 mission launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. On board was cosmonaut Andriyan Nikolayev (pictured below). Once his spacecraft had entered Earth orbit, Nikolayev released his harness and became the first human to float in microgravity.
