US Senate approves France Córdova to head NSF

MAR 14, 2014
Physics Today

Nature : France Córdova was confirmed by the US Senate as the new head of NSF on 12 March. Córdova, an astrophysicist, most recently served as the chairwoman of the board of regents for the Smithsonian Institution and on the National Science Board, NSF’s oversight committee. She will be the 14th director of NSF and replaces Subra Suresh, who resigned mid-way through his term. NSF is struggling to continue to provide grant money to researchers while the federal budget is tightened, and it is also facing potential changes to its focus from Congress.
