During the past year there has been a steady rise in the number of reports of attacks by certain pressure groups and by individuals, including members of Congress, against the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. Unesco has variously been charged with being subversive, with being tainted with atheism and communism, with propagandizing for world government, and with undermining nationalism in the United States. There have been frequent reports concerning attempts to intimidate teachers and administrators in schools throughout the nation where Unesco’s teaching materials have been used, and in many instances it appears that these efforts have succeeded.
