FEB 03, 2014
Physics Today

Guardian : The largest UK-funded scientific facility to be built in the UK in almost 50 years, the Diamond Light Source produces beams of light 10 000 times brighter than the Sun. The facility goes beyond the study of particle physics to investigate a range of scientific disciplines, including biology, chemistry, and material and Earth sciences. In this article for the Guardian, physicist Brian Clegg looks at how Diamond is being used to find a cure for cancer and to study earthworm casts and their use in such diverse areas as soil remediation and building material.
