Tesla chooses Nevada as site of proposed Gigafactory

SEP 05, 2014
Physics Today

New York Times : Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors has chosen Nevada as the site for its planned lithium-ion battery factory. The proposed “Gigafactory” will be 20 times as large as the current largest battery-manufacturing facility and will employ 6500 people. Nevada won the bidding process against four other states. However, its offer of $1.25 billion in tax breaks over 20 years still needs to be approved by the state legislature. Musk says that the large size of the factory is necessary to help reduce by 30% the cost of the batteries the company uses in its Model S cars.
