Private lunar mission sets science goals

BBC : Lunar Mission One is a private, crowd-funded proposal to build and land a module on the moon. The UK-led program was first announced last month, and now its organizers have revealed the details. They plan to land a spacecraft at the Moon’s southern pole, an unexplored area that is the site of the deepest known impact crater in the solar system. It is thought that rocks in the crater might reveal details about the Moon’s interior. The lander would drill 100 meters into the surface to obtain samples, which might provide evidence that clarifies theories about the Moon’s formation . The lander would also collect data about whether placing telescopes on the far side of the Moon would be feasible for improved astronomical observations.
