BBC: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), which published a report yesterday, radiation levels in most of Japan are below cancer-causing levels one year after the earthquake that damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Although a total effective dose of 10–50 millisieverts (mSv) over the past year has been recorded for people living in two areas near the plant, most of Japan experienced only about 0.1–1 mSv. People can be exposed to about 2 mSv of radiation a year from the natural environment, according to the BBC.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
