A continuous profile map of part of the Pacific Ocean basin, made by scientists of the U.S. Navy Electronics Laboratory, San Diego, using war‐developed underwater sound apparatus, shows the Pacific floor to be rugged and mountainous instead of smooth and undulating as had been supposed.
