DURING its Spring Meeting (held April 7–9 in Washington, D.C.) the Optical Society presented its Adolph Lomb Medal to Ian M. Mills, lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Reading in England. The Lomb Medal, established by the Optical Society in honor of its first treasurer, is awarded no more often than once every two years in recognition of a noteworthy contribution to optics made by a person under thirty years of age.
