Obama decries Republicans’ stance on climate change

JUN 27, 2014
Physics Today

Guardian : President Obama’s campaign to promote policies to fight global warming now includes an attack on Republicans in Congress in which he claims they are catering to fringe elements of the party. Speaking at an annual dinner of the League of Conservation Voters in Washington, DC, this week, Obama suggested that many members of Congress actually accept that global warming is happening but won’t admit it in order to maintain the support of those members of the Republican Party who deny that climate change is occurring. It is the second time that he has mocked the Republican Party’s stance on global warming in recent speeches. Earlier this month he compared climate change denial to the belief that the Moon is made of cheese. Regarding carbon emissions from power plants, the administration recently put into place new policies, which have been attacked by Republicans despite the evidence connecting carbon emissions to global warming.
