BBC : Research teams at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have released the first images of proton collisions since the facility was shut down two years ago for repairs. The collisions, which occurred at low energies of about 450 GeV, will be used to fine-tune the machine’s instruments. By 1 June the beams are expected to be ramped up to as much as 7000 GeV, and further tests will be run. Once up and running, the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator is expected to make more exciting discoveries like that of the Higgs boson in 2012.
