Major solar plant faces local resistance

APR 17, 2014
Physics Today

Los Angeles Times : Residents of Owens Valley, California, are fighting against a planned 2 sq. mi. (5.2 km2) solar array in the nearby desert. The $680 million Los Angeles Department of Water and Power project would generate power for 75 000 homes but create fewer than 10 permanent jobs and provide no tax revenue locally. Residents are also upset that the plant’s presence would disrupt scenery and take away from the sense of isolation at nearby Manzanar National Historic Site .
