Long‐term goals for nuclear science

The emerging quark‐gluon picture of the strong force promises nuclear physics for the first time a theoretical basis for describing the short‐range interactions in nuclei. This is one of many recent advances discussed by the Nuclear Science Advisory Committee in its report entitled A Long‐Range Plan for Nuclear Science.
